In the past, there are many examples of buildings that have withstood nuclear strikes (not direct but within range). It can be said that as long as the body is 2-3 times stronger than steel, you may no longer be effected by the impact of such explosions any longer.
If we were to talk about just a steel body, it would take at least .336 cal rifle round to start piercing. Even a .50 cal handgun round might not pierce the head. And zombies "the lowest" of monsters usually have steel like bodies.
It makes sense that by using abilities, and swords that can generate extra energy can provide more concentrated force at that point. Considering weapons are usually made out of a new material that can channel energy, but not "carry" energy, guns may be obsolete as the extra force from chi would dissipate before reaching target.
