Yeah a lot of them tend to focus on "you're a kid again! you get to f*** teenagers! you're a kid again! Everything's rad!" On the most they used to get is a lingering "man I miss my parents" but they either act like friends don't exist, make every protagonist a loner but somehow they stopping The loner the moment they reincarnate, or make them psychologically detached but they just stop being that when they reincarnate, you don't often get the person that realizes "even if I meet that guy I knew in my past life the events have changed the timeline has changed and that guy I'm meeting now is not the friend I had back then" or even the more basic "all the people I used to hang out with don't exist anymore, no one remembers them but me, anything I forget is lost to time"

It makes me remember a quote from the start of one of these series when they were the old man dying before they got reincarnated or whatever that just went " even my dying breath becomes a regretful sigh as I approach the end" it's very rare that any reincarnation series really lingers on the realities of having lived a full life with good times and bad times and regrets and joys and miseries and then just having to start from scratch and how miserable that might be.

I've never met anyone whose favorite manga is toriko I've never even heard of those people, that was a series that jump tried to put into the big three(all-time shonen Big Three being DBZ one piece and... toriko I guess? for that crossover, and in jump stars victory versus Plus he was also weirdly prominent) and the world just roundly said "no thanks, he's not terrible but he's fine w-we don't need him there"

I saw this comment and got excited for the first time reading this chapter.

In reflection of the main series finally sort of ending, I'd like to remind anyone that finds this that this spin-off is better than the main series in every way, It keeps the cool character design thing so you don't have to worry about that, the main character is a lot more limited in power and specific in personality so it offers a degree of uniqueness for the genre(and despite becoming stronger he doesn't just completely abandon his one unique character trait the moment he gets strong enough to not need to do it like a certain green haired buffoon that left his strategic brain and preplanning behind like eight arcs ago). The stakes bounce between personal and general with just the perfect balance that keeps you engaged, the character writing is very good you understand why everyone's doing everything they do and how they're able to and why conflict might arise. The villain is far superior to "Bad touch man"(who only did it cuz he was lonely MOM) from the main series with a more interesting power for a villain, a kind of unique psychological profile, and A genuinely interesting ark. In the main series a lot of the side characters have half of a characters worth of development and then they just slam them into stuff for action scenes, not only are the side characters in this series essential to the plot and lovable and well written, it even goes out of its way to add a backstory and depth to some characters from the main story that just got none or very little anyways that never feel like retconning or cheap. And above all that the vibe is just immaculate both keeping this chill college student vibe that fits the characters while properly establishing threat and danger when necessary, by the virtue of this being a spin-off a lot more characters become up for grabs as far as who can die and who can't, meaning that the suspense is properly maintained all the fights and action is pretty well paced, never drags, it's got good comedy.
I would honestly put this up there with Blood Lad as a surprise slam dunk of a series.
