Well assuming the author and artist aren't the same person, and they often are(multiple artists even), AFAIK artists tend to check in and be checked multiple times during the process, which is extra involved when colored like this is. Plus bottom line we can't know for sure and can only judge by what was given to us. In this example Helmut needlessly ruining someones life in a duel.

No, this was just some nondescript opponent that Helmut easily defeated, so easily the story didn't feel a need to show us the fight. But if it was that easy, then Helmut surely could have won without chopping off someones arm.

Also practically speaking that's the same as killing someone. Even if they didn't quickly bleed out, which would be the case. As I said taking off someones arm could make them want death, give them little means to survive. Looks like the right arm, and most people are right handed, and I would figure the author would assume that as well. So not just a arm, the sword arm. Helmut reduced this man to a futureless beggar or future suicide assuming es didn't bleed out. Destroyed this person without a single reason when Helmet could clearly easily not have done so and still won.

I'm thinking something else. Not the divine doctor or disciple of such but definitely not as appears. That QI Sense is likely being tricked. Though I can see narratively why you'd think that.

Though maybe I'm still just hung up on the weird suspiciousness of getting the the most evil and unrepentant of the bandits, the leader, sparred but letting the rest be murdered in cold blood without issue. That is not the actions of a good person and suggests it was done with a ulterior motive. Remember they are all bandits and if anyone is responsible for them being extra evil and breaking the rules, it would be the spared unrepentant leader, If this likely evil one turns out to be the divine DR or disciple of such (unless off the rails) I will be very disappointed in the story.
