well think of it like this, if a person who has general knowleadge about fighting and swords is asked to suddenly learn how to fight using a sword will strugle in the beginning. even if you give him a fancy sword he will still need to learn and master the basics. mc might have gotten a shiny boost to his core but he is still an amateur.

i mean it is a festival thing, or it is used after a large war to commomerate the death and to guide them on their journey if i am not mistaken. but as time passed that use changed abit. the rich people used it when they would marry their son/daughter off as a smooth sailing kinda thing, they would also put them on a lake to show off to others at night. and then in the late 1800s and early 1900s it became less about paying attention to the dead or wars or marriages, more about being turned into a festival thing most used during the chinese new year.
