But my argument for fantasy is that the trope of "I treat my slaves better so they are loyal to me" is a reflection of the insecurities of the author that became normalized for marketing reasons. It is simply that I don't believe nor can be convinced that to simply being a slave (different if the contract/pact is supernatural in nature and need for one of them to live or something like making a former enemy being kept in check, because then you can explore THAT narrative instead) and not being released by the MC is justified on "being treated better" when we all know that if they want to be with you and you with them they would just be with you. Stories of having "a life debt to someone so I dedicate my life to them" are pretty common after all.
It is simply that the author is insecure in the character being inherently the kind of person that would be deserving of that. And they probably are, given that they do not reject the system and institution of slavery that just as how it has always existed, has ALWAYS had vocal detractors. So they keep the slavery thing going on, because having an external guarantee of people being unable to leave your ass is the power fantasy at play and because it is also a popular thing to do that sells manga based on that power fantasy.
Dion's relationship with Eldora is like that and it doesn't depend on slavery to work, it is also hotter in my opinion, because the circumstances of their bond and the kind of people they are makes them unable to be apart. It is super good and like the main selling point in the manga, it is in the fkn title after all.
I just personally think it is a disgusting power fantasy to express specifically through slavery in this manner, specially here. Because it actually retracts from the bond trying to be presented and I just hate fucking slavery. But I will wait to see if it develops into something different.
The rest of it is you just being dorky and this is the internet, everyone can be dorky here.
But the thing about a social system in a fictional setting is that when you represent a system, how the characters interact with it tells the audience how they feel about the system.
Do they uphold it? do they reject it? do they prefer it for budgeting reasons with a single passing remark about it not being ideal and not much else?
So this is the kind of people Dion and Yuki are. Eldora is a dragon, so it's all the same to me.
But a social system implies things for someone's life it says thing about how the characters live and think about life.
But what is that "right... let's get out of here before we start getting weird ideas" bullshit? Is the inaction of the whole thing man, it's unheroic but more than anything is spineless and it was done because the "slave waifu" is just a common trope, it doesn't really give anything to the story.
Maybe it will be addressed later, no way to know. But this is some bullshit for the sake of bullshit. It is not commentary, it doesn't expose nor develop characters excepts for Dion empathy for ONE SINGLE SLAVE and the slave market and slavery system as a whole doesn't seem to have any relevance to story more than to be a free waifu generator so it sucks.
But this is not the worst offender I guess.
I hate fucking slavery man
It is always a trade on principles to neutralize a bigger threat.
KINTA IS DEAD FOREVER!
Lol
It seems you are as dumb as you are gay lmao
is it hard to be forced to like something?
Some people become wacky because of that.
It is a bit harder to assimilate because it is a very oriental form of existential philosophy.
In the west, we see toil as virtue, rest as a reward, comfort as decadent and suffering as a test. So this reasoning doesn't come to us as easily.
no way
