I do like how the MC becomes more proactive to their friendship as the story progresses.

Well, the first magic he used when arriving back was probably a basic one, and ya saw how it went.

That was such an unprecedented amount of failures for the losing heroine she might win a medal.

Twas a nice series and the author BARELY managed to close the story... but twas a nice journey.

Rather, I think it gives some needed breathing room, or twould be too much drama.
It's also a breathing space for the MC, and it allows for other emotional development, other than brooding.
