I honestly feel it could've ended better... but really, it was clearly losing a north after the last big war against them elves. So it really HAD to end.

Honestly, the story starts bad. Too much of a world dump.
But after about ch 3 it stops getting all the info out (much of it I skimmed because tis the typical explanations) and it starts feeling more of a shounen story.
And by the moment our MC starts getting more proactive, the story really finds its pace. And it aint bad.

Our MC has really grown into his own character.
Because he getting mad at people looking down on his cards feels like saying "looking down on my friends? Not on my watch".

Considering the sacrifice, I reckon is the former.
