A pretty excellent showing. The plot isn't complicated, and not too many of the personalities or plots are bigger than they can chew, which is a common issue for adventure stories these days. The characters have personality enough to cheer & cry for them as they help the plot along, and the conclusion, though rushed, actually wraps most of the plot threads up in such a ways that it's satisfying.

Mind, it says a lot about the current age when the passing grade on a comic is "It has a decent beginning, middle, and end", but beggars can't be choosers. It's worth the read.

It's pointless, I agree. Fact is, none of this is shown to the reader. We didn't get any of the necessary story that would justify the wives' resentment, we're just told to believe their bitching as a default. If author had built the story from the ground, up, it would be far more believable than what we're seeing.

Maybe instead of dumping 18 pages of backstory, they instead could have run a metaphorical parallel between MC and his sister, who's in a rush to be the best, to be strong, to be someone the village looks up to, and utilize both the villain and conflict as an allegory of that far-more-interesting conflict between siblings in order to fill out their characters and make them more real and dynamic.

But nah, more badass boring stills of mowing down literal mobs and small speckles of fanservice, instead. At least have the damn guts to commit and go full commune waifu with some of these ilk. Or crossbreed. One year and not one orc/goblin child? Coward. Bet we don't see anything meaningful of the elves, either.
