We're not. I told you I peace'd out a year ago. I just went as far as it took me to find that she was part of a subjugation squad, she was saving her comrades by being the distraction, the subjugations were alluded to be a major problem given her complete lack of sleep, and how quickly that starts to be brushed over because "I cried and miso soup is good". Since this story lacks every telling element of satire, parody, or comedy at all, I can take it seriously. And doing that, I can tell someone from her background is going to be WAY more concerned with the fate of her comrades and her kingdom's monster infestation than she will making nice nice with a otherworldly farmer boy.

But I've blabbed enough. You enjoy your story. I'm putting this one on my blacklist.

Doesn't need to be a large cast of characters. And of course the production-level slop isn't going to have that, because they're competing in a market that lives to copycat and look SLIGHTLY more polished in order to draw eyes. But again, you're blaming the tools when the problems are the author. To start, a harem doesn't need to be huge, just potent. The MC needs to have an objective and a drive aside of getting lots of tail (directly or inadvertently—To Love Ru, I'm looking at your goofy ass). The girls all need their own plot development angle, and should be woven into the core plot, which damn-well cannot be a flimsy gimmick. It needs to hook the parties together and compel them to see the journey through, else give a dramatic show when they fall out from said main plot or even main character.

And as we established, you're not gonna find that in webtoons because that shit's sloppy copypasta. You'll find it more rarely in manga, because most manga get lost in the gimmick or in the cheesecake. It's rarely considered a good subgenre because there's rarely any major effort put into anything aside of a two-page spread of some chick's panties. Even if they take it back to Ranma 1/2 levels, you would see a drastic change in reception.

No, I'm not. And now that I've refreshed on a story I left alone a little over a year ago, my statement still stands. This is a poor startup for a slice of life because one-half of the main cast is justifiably more concerned over the potential loss of subordinates and the fate of her kingdom over getting cozy with a rice farmer and adjusting to an entirely new means of life from the ground up. When pitching SoL, the last thing you want is an element that distracts from the comfy, and her active motivation is justifiably distracting, as well as far more interesting than whittling her down to play foreign wifey to a gimp in a rice field.

So much like many other of the stories you mentioned that invoke these gimmicks, it's once again used poorly and inspires no confidence to continue reading. But as I said before, you do you. I'm not here to hold back your fun.

I'm not reading too much into the backstory. I'm reading into the character's motivation. That you want to overlook that because cute girl becomes cute waifu is your own perogative. In which case, do what you do, I'm not here to rain on your parade. But it's the author's job to set their tools properly in order to tell a straightforward story with no distractions or ill-fitting segments. Judging by the comments on the front page, they did not do that.

Have your fun, regardless.

If this were straight up slice of life, I'd be right there with you. But the gimmick is a knight who was in the middle of a war, who cares deeply for her homeland, who takes her duty and honor very seriously. You're not going to get any kind of clean storytelling without addressing that hanging albatross, and the author failing to do so means you have a trash story on your hands.

Everyone's preoccupied with the magical lightning bullet and spider cloaca.

No one has bothered to question how the elf, who should have been in their room on a cruiser, managed to track down her master on an isolated island by boat with no actual clue that he was missing and no indication that neither MC or his loli companion called for actual backup.

"It's hentai so we're dropping it."

Yup. Scanslations have gone downhill since the early 00s.

"The next chapter" and it's just a segment of a chapter. I think the landscape on scanslations has really suffered these last few years.

Sit quietly in the corner with your Colt 40 then, chief. You can always skip those comments and spare the seconds of life you lose engaging them.

Having harem isn't an indication of a shit story. It's just a notice that the writer is garbage because they never know how to sew underlying plots, progression tables, and give all relevant characters an actual chance to grow beyond typecast personality traits.

Yes, most harem sucks. But they suck for a reason, not because of a given.

Go read Immoral Guild. That's the short of it.

I actually don't feel like going into the long, for once. MC is insincere, his "lazy" gimmick can't carry the book, and the supporting cast has absolutely nothing to do aside of glazing MC or flee from him. Just go read Immoral Guild. It's better.
