if you don't hear of it you can take it in one of 2 contexts. Gunwoo continued to remain quiet in novel, or was abducted and killed off... Remember that since MC has been transposed into the novel she has continuously derailed plans, thus making demon god never reaching perfection thus never getting the ability to kill off the chiyu vessels. Not too long ago they said it had multiple vessels and the demonic cult needed to kill them all before they get the chance to interfere with demon god resurection

personally i think haewon is "justified" in attempting murder for these reasons

You also have to remember that Jiha is first and foremost a player who "ended up with 5 wives". Is it not that haewon, the flower of dang/tang clan known for their acts of vengeance, was the fiance. In our current world it's unacceptable, but in murim is going back on your word, cheating on your betrothed, and ignoring a reputable sect not a slight to them, tarnishing their dignity. Especially when even bumping into a justice faction main disciple is grounds for a bimu (life/death battle)

On a side note with two sons, one will ascend the other will stay in the main family until they get a wife and then leave. Even if the second son doesn't leave the wife and all offspring are "branch" family.
