there are typically 4 types of purchase restriction in the states
• open buy (min req for background check)
• higher standard (some states make it illegal to own handguns without license so stores require it before purchase)
• highest standard (requires federal approval) (select features on specific firearms put them into a higher danger backet but not quite militia grade)
• law enforcement and military only (for purchasing) (RPG/AT4, full auto, special long range weapons, ect)

As far as attachments go there are some that require federal approval like bump stocks, 3way selector switch, suppressors, ect. Even picatinny rails are pretty much banned as a weapon can be considered as an "assault weapon" because communists get a hard on when their subjects can't defend themselves.

• shooting a smooth bore shotgun with a kid in front (obviously a collateral damage)
• a scope on a smooth bore shotgun (without choke or slugs = no range)
• aiming a shotgun of any kind at a bear (shotguns lack penetrating power and bear skin is extremely tough followed by a huge layer of fat)
• being part of a hunter organization and not using weapons that match the target
• being part of a hunter organization and using a firearm with a limited ammo reservoir (shotguns shell tubes aren't what dictate price)
• being a hunter period and not knowing its more efficient to shoot away from the bear to scare it away (injuring will just piss it off, loud noise will scare)
