Did you try black or white truffles and were they fresh or in some other form? Processed black truffle stuff apparently almost always has artificial white truffle flavoring that is very potent and single note. I watched a YT all about it someone doing blind taste tests on various truffle products. Considering how expensive it is though, it is not a big loss.

Verdict though was that fresh black truffle is good, use a cheese grater and use it as seasoning. Fresh white truffle was also liked but deemed not worth the money as it costs alot more, also unlike black which has some staying power, white truffle quickly starts degrading when cut even when in the fridge.

Apparently if you eat fresh black truffle it will be nearly unrecognizable in flavor. Since that artificial white truffle sufficates it and because the flavor compounds don't last very long once you break it up so that artificial white truffle taste is about the only thing you will taste in processed black truffle ingredients. Aside from which, a word that doubles to also meaning plural isn't as useful as a dedicated word. Yes with this particular example self verses selves is solved though not as immediately obvious which word is being said. But that isn't the case with the other pronoun examples.
