That's the key thing I am disputing, it really doesn't. It's a empire. The emperor does what they want and brutally suppress people who protest etc. Or even replace them with worm shape changers. It also has a monopoly on news and truth. And note the people in the front meant to die on the empire side clearly didn't want war since they were being scarified to it but still were forced in. That is why only the republic side had people against the war. Since only the emperor or whosoever in power needs to be convinced and they were clearly wanting the war, the empire getting attacks behind the lines didn't change war or not, it just weakened the empire, (and potentially revealed traitors) that nullifies your "profit from war" point since it doesn't contribute to having a war.
So I reject your reason there.

But to play devils advocate against myself. it seems the empire has way more power, they are fighting against a single city after all. If the empire wins too quickly the war ends. And rather than profit the main motive for wanting a extended war could be to weaken the humans for a demonic invasion.

Why would they want war even then? Besides it's not like the empire needs a excuse to attack the republic or whatever, so this contributes nothing to more war.

Story is light on the details. but they could easily not have known the sword was stolen if they bought it or something. Are you suggesting they never buy anything or somehow verify ownership of everything they ever buy, and how? Also it's multiple people, one of them might be guilty but the rest have no awareness of what was going on. Not saying that's how it is but it could be.

This is a total lie and/or es being a idiot. He totally unfairly pushed this whole staring contest onto Momo. Momo has every reason to be angry, though maybe not that angry. Just say you don't recognize the whole thing and won't go on a date because of it and be done with it, while giving some leeway to the person who says they loved you and you loved them before you lost your memory.
