To your first point, seems like giving a top tier essence could be called "babying". How directly aiding and guiding is less "babying" than dying to give a cheat like essence, is beyond me.

Totally on it having to be a super rare essence, but enough effort for long enough and you might get something not too far off.

Anyway let's compare benefit to the barbarian tribe.
Scenario 1. Carefully cultivate all barbarians to survive and get stronger with their own essences. Maybe not cheat like essences, but good essences.
Scenario 2. Die to give a single barbarian one cheat essence.

Sure #2 has potential of quality over quantity, but quantity matters too. Lots of barbarians surviving and getting stronger can be sea changing for the whole group, like what MC has done for them. Also it means alot more people living.

When MC stumbled upon a poacher group and there was a pile of forest animal bodies for some reason. That familiar/pet we haven't seen in awhile for some reason was hatched because of all this and because of the bloody environment has blood powers.

This one was one of the poachers MC spared. Didn't fight against MC that I recall.

The giver would likely already be strong to have gotten a essence worth passing on in the first place. Or to have been worthy to be passed on to.

Thus instead of giving a single essence over and dying, said person could aid others in combat to make sure they don't die and get essences of their own. In terms of raw benefit to the barbarian people, the latter seems better.

Essences, like that which they get from monsters? Just get new essences from monsters and then people don't need to die.
