It goes to show how kind-hearted she is. When they explained what devil cycles are, they said that it's something that happens occasionnally to a any demon, but we never saw that side of her. Even now, at a time of stress due to the exam, she only goes into evil cycle due to the drug. And even then, she still seems to be more loving than anything, just in a more possessive and selfish manner.
More than likely, she is just extraordinary at keeping her negative feelings in check, a rare ability for a demon.

Ah, this is fascinating. The species as no concept of self vs group, rather it consider its entire specie to be the self, like a single individual. Bigger slimes get bigger brain and so bigger cognitive abilities. And most importantly they put their memories in common when fusing and when sperating, both must also keep the totality of this knowledge. That must be why their known as "knowing water", they must accumulate enormous amount of knowledge. Even if they do age (which is uncertain) they can just transfer to a younger slime to keep valuable information.
If a civilisation got to use one of those to safeguard knowledge, they could have a reliable depository of history which doesn't suffer from time like most physical supports do!

Tales of Symphonia did something like that. The protagonist is not the chosen one, but rather her friend. The chosen one is a half angel girl and the protagonist is her childhood friend, a regular teen of the same age who only has swords.

But that allows for an interesting perspective, because it turns out there are some very screwed up aspect to being the chosen one, so the boy gets to intervene and try to change the course of things.
