To me, it looks like her mental health declined because she had to quit her job and she became easily agitated. She may have been holding a grudge. No excuse to treat her husband like that.

If your marriage is this bad, it would be better to get a divorce, heal, and learn from the experience.

My honest opinion

I recommend reading this. It's not too over the top. The MC is a beast(I love his personality, skills, and logic that matches his occupation) and the story is simple(Not overly complicated). Just a man(mercenary) guarding a witch who is trying to start a better life after going to a new, very different unknown land. Getting into situations while enjoying adventures and learning new things. It gives realistic reactions to coming across cultures completely different from your own.
