When you take that into account with the fact that the MC needed Mel's potions specifically for the golden potions, and that he JUST SO HAPPENED to be in the alley to save her, and that he JUST SO HAPPENED to electrocute several other men to death on the "safe" route he sent Mel through, and he JUST SO HAPPENED to talk to that potion shop and negotiate favorable terms for Mel on her behalf?
Could it be that he had been watching her? Was he actually aware of the shady deals that Illness Workshop was using to muscle out competition? Was he also aware of Mel's business circumstances and intervened? Did he do all this to help her, or is he really a "cold-eyed person at heart," as were warned? Maybe he just didn't want his easy income to be tampered with, so he removed the obstacles to his comfort and success.
The MC might actually be a really scary bastard underneath his exterior. This story might get interesting if developments like this are repeated.
Hey, look! It's his old self. You can see that he's wearing different clothing, his little hair tuft is gray, and his face seems leaner and a more adult. Very cool nod to his past life.
Meanwhile, these cultists seem to have some different plan. They seem to want the Harvest, as well, but why? If the Oracle knows the future, why invite destruction?
