Every chapter without the crazy nurse is a sad chapter.

He's probably not trying to help the family.He still killed a bunch of them.My assumption is that the uncle wanted revenge and joined the cult to be able to get it.Saving the other kids could either be because either the MC would get sad or he is only evil towards his revenge targets.Same thing for the brother, spared him either because the MC would get sad or because the brother helped ignore him murdering someone back then thus he isn't a revenge target.

What the king actually means is they don't want to spread the truth because the hero would loose authority.If anything spreading that there are more people that can fight the demons should be a good thing for everyone, everyone except the hero and the king telling the hero what to do ofc.
