I mean the narrative never made it out to say she was abusive or didn't care even if the girl felt like it. Cuz when you pay attention you'll see she does follow-up on her daughter's business and does care for her. She's just also often neglectful cuz of work and as a result makes most of her conversations focused on school.

On that note she never really asks her if she's getting along with classmates or takes time to relax and do school activities either. She mainly focuses on academics, so ultimately she does want her to lead a normal life. However the way she shows it makes her come off as cold, distant and only caring for her grades. She's overall a decent Mom though.

Granted it is one-sided, but I wouldn't know what the point of lying would be by this point genuinely. Like, why even call out the MC to the beach to give him your fan fiction to make him feel bad for you when you could have just as easily just run away and never contact him again.

I guess it's cuz
1. The guy is open and honest, so you don't have to worry about him being shifty
2. He doesn't really force anyone to like or adhere to the things he says most of the time therefore he is ultimately harmless
