Well think of the shape of a pencil- Thin and light
The hilt could potentially get in the way, it being a super-light metal would allow it to be spun really fast (though being able to do it fast with a regular weighted metal would be awesome), though having it be a rapier would incline it towards stabbing instead of slashing- which would be a little counter intuitive...
The idea needs some more time in the oven, but it's a fun idea!
