well, he does have one up on most harem protags. he actually picked one instead of halfheartedly leading them all on. problem is, the one he picked didn't want him in the first place. so now as he chases the one who doesn't want him, the rest will slowly fall away, and he'll end up with none of them. it's all just a matter of time.

Not wrong, but remember the ratio is 39:1, men were/are probably severely oppressed in this world, so they're logically super defensive towards women, which can easily come across as rude.
Also, with that 39:1 ratio even meeting a man is an unlikely occurrence, so getting to know them is even more unlikely. They probably just judge by first impressions and mentions in passing.
