I don't feel the plot was overly convoluted. The title is the survival of a sword king in a fantasy world. This isn't a heroes tale or some slow life adventure. from start to current its a story of survival. First his own, then his companions. now, his companions have proven themselves to be strong enough to survive without his help, and -in fact- he's actually a threat to them, so he left. He currently has no need for his strength to survive so he's running away from it. Remember, even if he's absurdly strong, he's still just a kid. So now, given some rest and a break he's finally able to grow mentally for a bit to meet up with absurd physical growth.
Also, he go the transformation ability from a dungeon artifact and is using it to blend in and hide because his usual self sticks out so much.

If you're really confused as to how the plot got to where it is, you might want to consider going back and rereading.

this is gonna either be a slow burn for 100+ chapters or a really cute and fun 20-30 chapter short story. either way I'm on board.

my thought is its something akin to the Akashic record(the infinite record of all things. past, present, and future). It records everything including the gods and is therefore above even them. perhaps a part of if not the entire system that orchestrates all there is.

this is a believable character development. strength and ideals will only get you so far. Han Bin lost all motivation and drive. he has no reason to fight. this arc is all bout giving him a new one.
