clearly she fears not being useful and this rod gave her power she otherwise did not have. Or there might be some other explanation. I would like to read the flavor text on it, maybe if used by unqualified individual it has some side effects to them now that it is in the "real world"

that isn't really fair now is it. They haven't even explained why she abandoned her original self. The rod may have an unknown status effect or she simply became too dependent on it due to some existing complex. This kind of judgment is only good on a character that has clearly been revealed to deserve it. It is not the case here.

once again, the scale of this is hard to grasp. Especially when you consider how easily the MC just wipes the floor clean. 

why even bother with this. The MC had trouble with an underling and the boss just showed up. at this point its going to be some contrived plot about how he somehow gets out of it because the final boss lets him for some plot etc..blah blah.
