It was noted that the group mostly responded negatively to the video. However, when researchers played a clip in which it was shown that the man was in a relationship with the woman and that he was unfaithful. When given this 'context', the group's once negative reaction to the slap became positive and even encouraging.

I myself am guilty of wishing someone suffered the way they made others suffered because then there would be hope they would understand the cruelty they engage in. But, one, it is cruel to involve the suffering of innocents due to the person they have a connection with being cruel, and two, often these cruel people are so narcissistic and prejudiced they perceive their engagement in cruelty as their right and any slight or harm against them as unreasonable and unprovoked.
