She is not a servant, or a slave or anything of that sort, and the contract pretty much implies that.I think the problem I find with it is that itwould have been much much easier to give her a temporary identification, and then have him guarantee it by vouching for her. Kind like cosigning for a loan. Actually that's pretty much what it is. Hes cosigning for her, but they are calling it a slave contract. Figuratively, you could call it that, but it isn't what that is. This actually has been a fruitful conversation.

It isn't even that though, as they explained its a mutual contract that certifies guardianship over a person. It doesn't even rise up to the level of master/servant.

It explains a lot about how they have such a relaxed view of slavery and casual use of it in their storytelling. on the flip side, they don't use nuclear weapons in their storytelling lightly, and even if they do, it's usually to show devastation. Or difference in scale.

i think the word "slave" is in appropriate for the contract they just made. By definition there is no consent to slavery. The author took great pains to explain the whole process but merely saying "although these contracts are managed by the slave management company, they one actually isn't actually a slave under this contract" or something of those lines. Doing it this way kind of diminishes the horror that is actual slavery.

frankly up to this point, ranking up has been fairly simple. I would expect the higher ranks to require something a bit more involved.

Two things here. He said that she can't change the world till she becomes more powerful. But the change she wants to make will displace all the nobles who aren't high enough. The parallel to this in our time is that automation and AI will displace low skilled workers or work that is easily automated. the only difference is, it's almost a certainty the people who are implementing these things aren't even thinking of the damage they will bring. Just the money.

Given the world that is depicted, vagabonds or stray children are probably either targets by criminals or mouths to feed that no one wants to handle. Those two options sounds pretty obvious in such a feudal era like world.
