Now this is completely linear thinking. No matter the reason, traitors must be eliminated? This is absolutely wrong and very linear thinking, it is true that many cases of betrayal is for bad intentions, but this is completely different in this context. The sama clan patriarch has good intentions, this is a case of "Lesser evil for the greater good", as he was trying to save his clan which probably has hundreds more of people, if he decided to not betray then the enemy could've killed his entire clan in front of him. If you say that soyeh is more important, no matter how strong one is, they are still a single person against many others lives. Oh and yes you're right about the betrayal part, it is true he technically betrayed but he is not a scumbag for it, thats only the perspective of the other patriarchs and especially the namgoong clan since soyeh was the one to be killed. Jumping boats and siding with the bad guys is bad yes, but he never did that. All he did was to accept the offer of killing ONLY soyeh and to save his clan, not to help the enemy. NAMGOONG HEAD WAS KIND???? That guy literally killed sama clan patriarch even though he never actually managed to kill soyeh or even hurt her.... He did no harm to anyone but only ATTEMPT to sacrifice soyeh (THERES A REASON WHY IN REAL LIFE, CRIMINALS DON'T IMMEDIATELY GET THE DEATH PENALTY, AND GET IMPRISONMENT... EVEN FOR FIRST DEGREE MURDER). Namgoong clan head took the sama clan patriarch's head for ONLY the reason that he ATTEMPTED to kill soyeh.... If he wiped the sama clan for only that reason, then he would be as evil as the enemy who was going to do the EXACT SAME THING. This isn't even being oppurtunist, he was just trying to save his family by taking the first stand, if he didn't maybe soyeh would've died already since he stalled for time by slowly preparing for his actions and by accepting the offer. If he didn't the enemy would've just directly taken her life so technically he even saved soyeh this time even though it was because MC showed up, this still means he unintentionally ended up saving another person and more specifically the namgoong head's daughter and for what? TO GET KILLED BY THE NAMGOONG CLAN PATRIARCH. (Yes the last line is a bit stretching it, if you don't acknowledge that he unintentionally saved soyeh, I don't mind since its not based on anything but hypothetical scenarios). And once again, HE IS NOT OPPURTUNISTIC, that means "someone who tries to get power or an advantage in every situation" literally from google, when tf did he try to get "power" or an "advantage" in "EVERY" situation??? First, the intention for this was to save his clan, not to gain power. He does not gain an advantage either since the other clans are against him after his act, and this is the ONLY TIME he has tried to take an offer shown in the story. All that just to save his damn clan.

No actually its more that the other sects don't dare fight back because they know that they have no chance and decided to just stay quiet since they had no choice and couldn't fight back. Just a reminder, they are the 10 great clans yet they got overpowered by the enemy, since they're already at such a high position and the enemy overpowers them, they know that the enemy can't be beaten (this is by logic, not by using "But the MC is stronger"). The sama clan patriarch was just the first one to take a risk to save his family. I'm sure you know that there are more people in the sama clan than A SINGLE soyeh.... Its risky but at that point, he had no choice if he wanted to affirm his family/clan's safety.
The clans were not exactly ready to accept death but rather their pride didn't let them bow down. Sama clan patriarch was the first one to understand and assess his options, this is oppurtunistic but that does not make him a traitor as he saw only that option to save his sect. Yes he was killed by namgoong clan patriarch but it was not exactly justified as all he did was try to save his family, namgoong killed him for no other reason other than him trying to kill his daughter which I can understand. And obviously he knows it was wrong to do so which is precisely why he did not deserve it, he knew he had to do it to ensure his clan's safety and had no choice but to do so.

I even took some screenshot from previous chapters to explain:1.First here, the evil lady says that she will spare the family of the one who takes the offer

2.Sama clan patriarch takes the offer showing a lot of hesitation and regret (he even tries to confirm if Evil lady will spare his family/sect)https://i.postimg.cc/wMM2h595/i.jpg
3.Sama patriarch shows regret in his aactions and asks soyeh to resent him as he deeply regrets this decision but had to do it for his family/secthttps://i.postimg.cc/0NvCt18y/i.jpg

"Oppurtunist" when he struggled to just get the condition of saving his sect? He did go against the orthodox principles but that doesn't mean he was an opportunist scumbag....

Oh and off topic but Opportunists aren't necessarily bad, it's just that they're portrayed bad in most comics. Sama patriarch isn't one but just saying that most people are opportunists
Edit: Wait what "sided with traitors instead standing up to evil just like the rest of the people who were present"???Bro first they aren't traitors but just villains, they betrayed no one, they were just evil, and wdym the rest were standing up against evil, they no shit and just stood there, Sama patriarch was indeed a bit drastic with his actions but that was with hesitation and just for a chance for his sect to survive....If you were told to kill someone or have your family killed, the normal choice would be kill the other person hesitantly or die trying

Off topic man, that’s from his perspective, I’m talking about the story direction right now. He does try not to but the main point is that he is a sadistic mc, or else this manhwa wouldn’t exist. But yeah I acknowledge your point, character development is a thing
Edit: That bs evolution still doesn’t make sense, seyun had her aunt die in front of her, do I see any development from her? No! What about the other characters? Nothing. Only the Mc for some bs reason evolves and evolves specifically now at a convenient time

No I mean like, he didn’t snitch anything… he thought he had no choice but to listen to their demands for a chance for their clan to survive which is common behaviour, nobody would just know that the mc would magically come and save them… to his knowledge, the ones trapped are all sect/family leaders that are of the strongest sect/family’s so it’s same for him to assume there’s not many people stronger.

Thank god it wasn’t just me noticing

Yeah that’s the point, a fresh mc is better than a very common cliche mc where the author just makes them power conveniently right when they need it or are overpowered
