But it is a capitalism issue as well. People should not be able to sell their lives. It's wasteful of resources. Children should not be able to be florinated. People who are already dying should be required to be florinated. Have you heard of NIMBYism? That stands for "not in my back yard", important things like apartment buildings etc. are blocked because of NIMBYism. Heard of "Home owners association"? basically privately owned local tyrants who cause lots of misery to many people. Never buy a house that is part of a Home owners association. You are buying into tyranny over you. Do you know what drives both of these very bad US aspects? Property values, which is about capitalism. Meanwhile all the apartment buildings, and even many homes are being bought out by private businesses and rented at extra high prices and turned into air B&Bs which causes a housing crises, which causes homelessness which in the US is treated like a criminal offense.

Back to the story, with everything for sale for private ownership, that's capitalism at the heart of it. Capitalism isn't about fairy tales of equal opportunity, supply and demand or any econ101 BS. It's about those who have money controlling everything over those that don't, which results in gross inefficiency. The author may have not meant for this comic to be commentary on capitalism, but the way this world works is very capitalistic and these consequences are as well. The only thing is if it were this bad, society would have quickly fallen apart, so in that aspect it is still highly unrealistic, aside from the base concept. (no sunlight that plants can grow in? The author is adding a third perspective by adding in past Caisy and to top it off in a way well outside of the memory viewing construct! This seems like a terrible way to prepare to fight the darkness, since the system specifically said other than kills made directly by MC, all deaths make the darkness stronger. That means all these wars that MC is unnecessarily starting in conquest, are strengthening the darkness.

Instead MC should be looking to make alliances and leave wars only as the last resort when even alliances are off the table and even then only if conquest would really benefit the objective of defeating the darkness.

There are other ways to go about doing it. For one they could show memory viewing Caisy's thoughts on reflecting what xhe was thinking of back then. The way it was done it looks like from the perspective of past Caisy, which puts the PoV all over the place.

Basically if Kvye was the "embodiment" of DG then they would be the same person. "Embodiment" kinda means the same thing as a "avatar", at least in this context, Think of the Avatar movie with a human remote controlling a giant blue alien body, it would be like that.
