Having moments for characters to develop is fine but unless fmc royally fucks up, there shouldn't be anything that can realistically rock the boat at this point.

As much as I want to agree, they are useful in two aspects. 1. They act as a walking repository of information/common sense for the mc. 2. They have scout/rogue type skills that the mc currently doesn't have access to.
