horimiya WAS a good proper romance manga for the first like 20-30 chapters, then it devolved into a toxic abusive relationship with insane double standards, miyamura was constantly covered in bruises and evidently traumatized (flinching and covering his head whenever she raised her hands, afraid she'd beat him up again, which she did way too often) from hori's abuse, their friends telling him "you must have done something to deserve getting beaten up" and miyamura thinking if he left her his friends would abandon him, and this NEVER got sorted out and we even see hori keeps abusing both miyamura AND her little brother in the timeskip at the end of the manga.
oh she was also treating her father like absolute garbage despite doing the exact same things her mother did, and her excuses for being stressed out went out of the window since they were "she has to take care of her little brother alone since her parents are never home" but then we see her parents are always home after a certain point in the manga.
so hori dropped her role as responsible mature caring girl and became an abusive bitch and miyamura lost all his good personality traits when he got a makeover and turned from interesting independent guy to pretty boy + traumatized DV victim that thinks they can't live without their abuser.
