Because this is more like reality. In what world would modern women share a dude like that. Harems only worked when women had no agency, until very recently they had no rights as a citizen so it was easier to convince/force them to "share". In these worlds with magic I'm sure sexual dimorphism evolved differently, or was created differently by whatever gods created the worlds with magic, so the men being bigger and women being smaller didn't make as much difference in who was successful. A small guy or girl with powerful magic could easily overwhelm the strongest people.
