These are people training their whole life, and he's caught up to the elite his age, in like a year...has it been a year yet? But he has super speed, but you see how the guy caught his punch? The stronger they get the easier it is to catch someone with speed like his. Speed might be more common than expected, his older opponents commented like it wasn't something new. So if speed isn't rare, people probably prepare to fight speedy opponents

He made investments with that merchant, and they give him a constant income. It's been a while, but the merchant basically tried to hand over the group to him. I believe the merchant was the father of one of the kids he saved, and he started listening to him. He's rich, and he has an investment for wheat, because a famine is about to arrive, and he's stocked up while the prices are low. So he's gonna get richer. Don't you remember him buying that expensive room where the snitch tried to steal his room? Didn't he basically bribe an elder, to get on his good side? If he runs out, the merchant would have more.
