Paid soldiers trained in peace tend to be very cowards and easy to panic, seen a bunch of blood hungry mercenaries who refuse to go down with one stab like in their practices, make them try to run away, creating easily exploitable oportunities, actually, i really like the fact that the author is giving the mercenaries some plot armor, not just the OP MC, that's good writting, and shows the audience that the danger is real, no disney/marvel levels of supossed danger.

This manga, remind me a Corean Manwha about a hero who was forced to repeat the story over and over and over again, and started similar with the Hero doing a Rush of the story just destroying the main obstacles before going after the demon king, of course, that hero first killed all he's party, because they where useless, it was fun, but eventually, abandonated by translators

If you take a soldier, who has already survived combat in a war, real combat, not drone wars, especially a ranger level soldier and you put him against a fully geared and armed swat team, who has only be trained at swat, the soldier it's gonna kick the swat ass so hard that will look like a kid getting beat up, so full armor soldiers trained on a peaceful country, against mercenaries born and raise in war, no contest at all.
What i get is that the mercenary team has been fighting really hard against the deefenders, and took much more damage than they expected, still, since they are better than the defenders, just pushing harder has been enough, and right now, the Mc and he's party are the last line of defense, and the real battle, it's about to start.

If you think on blak and white, yeah it's not the definition, but this days, Hero and villian are absolutly relative, good and evil are just a judgement about the consecuence of an action, if the action helps you in any way, it's something good, else is evil, and many characters are much more on the punk side, just having fun while they destroy society norms and make suffer those who make the rules, their actions are not guided why they see as stupid believes, common good, protection of the innocent, helping the society, they don't care, yet if the result of their actions help those who are being oppressed, they will be seen as heroes, and later label as antiheroes to try to make sense of their actions, reality have always been extremly complicated and love to break poor human expectations, and humans are always triying really hard to catch up, and usually fail.
