USA producers trash everything for no reason, how many movies based on popular USA created propertys have been totally trash due the idiocy of the producers?
USA producer are also very well know for trashing actually good propertys, you should read about the Debacle of Ghostbusters cartoon and Q5, is the best example of the producers idiocy, and as you correctly pointed, that idiocy has no reason since they have so much feedback, especially in this days.
One thing many people does not know, is that in Japan Blu ray sales are still very high, is one of the most popular media, why?, well because many Animes have to be rushed out to be aired, and the blu ray version many times fix the animation problems, also have tons of extras that japanese fans love, so production companies use the Bluray sales as an important messurement point, that's why series that are very popular outside of japan never get continuation, Anime producers do listen to the audience, well up to a certain point, many people believe that big international and USA companies have input, but the truth is unless they put all the money for an small production house, they are pretty much capped to about 10% of the total production money, and that gives them just 10% of input about what the end product will be.
So menwhile outside money love to deep their claws on Anime, the truth is that most of the problems, are direct responsability of the Production Housesand the Directors

I don't mind changing things to better use of the media, when changes make sense, if the Anime producer would have used the Heroine as the narrator and tell the story from her point of view, well that have been weird, but creative and well done aceptable, the manga adatation of Knights and Magic is the prime example of how to respect the media, the Anime goes more for the action because is a moving media, the Manga focused much more on character development and backstories, because it goes much better with the media, changes just for the sake of change, or changes that make no sense destroy the final product, and it's not the first time, just the same season the instadeath isekai cheat was uterly destroyed because anime producers skip most of the backstories and worldbuilding that give that series it strenght, about a year ago the cheat pharmacist isekai was destroyed when the producers tried to make it another konosuba, this is not a new trend and it's more somethink japanese learned from USA producers, who are more than infamous for destroying series with awful nonsensical adaptations, then again the advantage is that in Japan, fans have a real power in telling producers what works and what not, with the Blue Ray and merchandize sells.
