Plot progression is pretty decent, you get a mini Arc of events every 6 to 10 chapters and you learn more about what's happening and what's going to happen, alternating with power progression chapters, though the Arcs are a lot of "setting up Grand plans the audience isn't privy to until they start to unfold" which I suppose is something you'd be quite familiar with Lelouch vi Britannia OR SHOULD I SAY-

I meant from an inuniverse view not a meta-texual one, in the universe he knows at this point that everyone is just people now and it's no longer writers catering to an audience of lolicons, just a bunch of actual teenagers. As such his judgment and insults don't make any sense and while he does have a comedically skewed view point he never came across as completely unself aware.

From an outside view of course the joke scans as a commentary on the fan base of these types of stories and how they often push really hard for young love interests and romance targets. I think my problem is this story does not lean far enough parody or satire for that to be my first reading of the joke, so it just becomes a weird thing he keeps saying.
Also were judging the character as written, he's judging the person based off of a character that was written, so while they are similar things they are distinctly different. The closest allegory in real life short of reincarnating ourselves, would I guess be judging an actor based off of the way the character was written as opposed to how they're acting. But I'm not going to lie I am being a pendantic ass here.

Like straight up I don't mind his preferences, they're perfectly understandable considering he is mentally an adult and I appreciate that this is a series that acknowledges that aspect of this genre for once, but his lack of self-awareness is annoying - like he's mad at the character for decisions the writers made, and he can't separate himself away from the character he used to play as enough to realize that that person is just a teenager that likes other teenagers.

On the plus side it means he'll finally have a disciple that's not a dickhead.

I know the intent of the story my point was that it feels good to have a solo Arc to remind us he's not just some old man to look after.

Yeah I thought so, so the dungeons are based on a mix of the history as the witch recorded and experienced them (via the book of apocalypse), and the history that was supposed to occur (per the book of creation), because the dungeon all the other participants cleared earlier on this floor was the one he built that he killed baboon in, the great emperor's tomb.
Only instead of an eternally burning Forest reliving its last moments as all the witches die in the tomb, it's a live and vibrant forest and the tomb holds only baboon.

And it gives him nearly polished techniques without having to sharpen them across several generations. It's the best advantage for this type of setting without being completely unbalanced.

He doesn't seem particularly strong or threatening considering the main character just sliced and diced him twice without him even being able to react, immortality is useless if you don't have the damage potential to make your survival worth it.

Isn't this exactly how that fight with the vampire went too? He could have got a kill confirm, fumbled it, and then dude transformed into a stronger form. At least this time the monster didn't kill a s*** ton of civilians due to his fumble. but yeah the stretching is a problem.

I'm not 100% sure why, but the moment Altair showed up, parts of the conversation stopped making sense as much.

It's like they forgot they started her character Arc a long ass time ago and then this Arc they decided they would just do a whole involved character Arc like alongside the other stuff that was happening so that we could resolve that romantic thread. But the unfortunate result is that it feels like she has manic mood swings.
