If I could alter this series, I'd set the original fist king dude up for such a catastrophic failure it'd be unavoidable. I'd curse him so that anyone who he tries to manipulate will directly hear his thoughts as long as there's intent. Anyone he isn't genuine towards would be immediately alerted to his intentions.

Beyond that I'd make all the ruins he wants to get to first far more dangerous than before, but clear them out of the extra danger using absurdly high level magic to not only hide the traces, but revert the ruins to their old state.

Basically fk with him as much as possible, ruin his attempts at relationships, and leave him unable to steal what he needs. The only avenue I'd give him is the obvious: create a party and do what they did last time. But given the intent from our MC to not be a tyrant towards humanity this time, that won't be as easy as no fence-sitters with join him as easily.

The premise itself is based in a superiority complex that the author has about how cultivators are stronger than superheroes... it's stupid.
