i mean, he's been under a lot of stress since day 1. While yeah, he's suppressed it pretty well under the lewd/dark humor, he's barely done anything to actually resolve the issue because he had a hope he could go home. then the princess shattered that hope and all that repressed frustration and stress came to a head.

We also need to remember he's still just a teenage kid. puberty and hormonal imbalance leads to rapid mood swings quite often. so as much as this rage seems to have came out of basically nowhere, it still falls somewhere near logical enough not to shatter the suspension of disbelief.
