as a side note i wonder how many residents are real/originals. we'll probably never know because it doesnt matter that much to the plot but from videos about kowloon i've watched, it seemed like lots of the residents had a real affinity for the slum, and some protested its destruction even though they all got paid pretty handsomely to move out

How would him being directly involved in the story make it better? Also if everyone was just like "welp, i dont care about what happened to him, that's in the past!" it would lower the tension and cheapen the accomplishments of the up and coming raguokas.
