He's had a traumatic events when it came to his demon side, so it's understandable he would be hesitant to use it. A good comparison would be Shoto Todoroki, granted Meliodas isn't an abusive husband or father, but these are similar in the sense that they focused on one of their powers due to the teams of the other. And just like Shoto, Tristan just needs to come to his own understanding of his powers. As for my other, wasn't expecting the childhood friend to be a creep. It really didn't need to go that route. At best make him genuinely not interested in her or let him find someone else to like. At worst, let the childhood friend being friends with MC and still not find interest in the girl. Just don't make it seem like "oh, childhood was bad cause he was a creep". As for the comparison to others works, of course your average MC would be a creep by our irl standards, but I don't primarily use are standards, I use the standards within the confines of the story. And even with the confines of this story it's still weird. And truthfully, if I use irl logic for every story like this, then, 90% of these stories have "questionable" characters and/or concepts.
