Seriously, the author didn't need to have Kenji be treated like shit. Why does this have to happen to him?

She's probably a priestess or something equivalent and has some unique power that let her know that the things are bad for humans, but none of the elves know about it. But that's just a theory.

Nope, cause they probably don't know what effects it has to humans. The elves are isolationist and they only have communications with specific humans, i.e. the sly noble. So there wouldn't be any need to know. Besides the fault are the nobles themselves from the old who purposely are selling the drug and profiting from it, to the young ones for using. Now it's not entirely the young ones' fault as the old nobles, just like irl, continue to hog and push down the young ones from getting into power.

Edit: so I was reminded about how an elf prevented MC form from drinking the tea. So there a chance that the elves knows what it does to humans and don't care or that particular elf knows and didn't want MC to be affected. But honestly even if the elves knows they wouldn't and shouldn't care, as they, rightfully so, have a poor view on humans, especially royalty and nobility.

Yep, most of the time, even if we don't bring up the crusades, people have used religion to justify any heinous actions. Humans just love to use the excuse of "a higher power demands such and such" but honestly we never needed any of that when we have soooooo many selfish, immoral people who would abuse and/or misuse any form of power.
