It happens during dire situations (which you're right, they got beat once yet they act like they're massacred and have no forces left), the powers do sometimes use slaves as meat shields or just poor fighters. Although slaves are weak and have no experience. Everyone is different, some slaves may be cowards and others brave. If its just "normal" soldiers (which is currently the soldiers, not weird magicians or bullshit aura swordsmen) then even if the quality of soldiers is bad, some are eventually going to kill the enemy's soldiers. Burning stuff is the stupidest idea they could do, even stupider than a "general mobilization order" as they are cutting their own resources and collecting more refugees weakening their economy and if you argue saying its the enemy's territory, then refugees still will come and the burnt land provide better area for the empire to attack the enemy. Fires are used when army's are within after blocking retreat paths and ONLY when near in strength. It is used by a far weaker army only during special conditions. Ruining the economy isn't that easy. They can always recover, when an enemy attacks they need to cause damage worth the casualties and properly cripple ther economy. Burning farms and forests are some ways but they don't "cripple" the economy much and allows for a counter attack from the empire. If they were twice as stupid, they would start burning farms and forests. It won't only hurt the economy of the empire but also theirs. They also need to be wary of the empire and manage crowd control while damaging their economy. They know now they're weaker, therefore It isn't in their best interest to burn fields but to siege a castle for control over the territory. They underestimated MC.... I mean they didn't but author is dumb and bad at war tactics. He does not understand making it feel stupid, but lets just assume somehow MC was underestimated and they lost. The slaves are also not going to be naked while fighting. A general mobilization order is different from what you think, its more like recruiting country citizens. They will provide weak armor and worse weapons making it a high risk move as it makes them have a major lost for weak troops. Even slaves, when grouped can fight back. When you mean they would look like "evil dicks" then you're absolutely right but you don't think of the consequences of that repetution. Its already worsening for them. This woul make more people abanon their countries and make soldiers lose morale, which is highly important in war. This is why going for commander first is high risk, high reward yet everyone goes for it. Please read carefully and understand what I mean, thanks for reading, if you made it this far.

From what I know, arrays are more common in the cultivation world instead and array's usually work with the help of whatever power cultivators use....It'd be a better bet for Mr. MC here to just beat the shit out of the enemy instead of staying idle for his bullshit reason...

Anyone (like me) still annoyed by the terrible "war tactics" from last or 2 chaps back? .......I can't even call it a tactic, they just somehow got on the cliff, ambushed the ambushers and SOMEHOW placed bear traps without them noticing... which was negative levels of stupid... I can't stop being bothered....
