From what I remember, it displays [the person that killed him]'s abilities as cards that are reversed (so he can't see which he's choosing) and he has to pick one.
But it's been a while since I re-read this, so I could be wrong.
Then there's the "Is an Authority even classed as a Skill he can take?" question.
