The problem is that one of the Tang clan's foundational rules is to be respectful and hospitable to guests bc the Tang clan is famous for their poison despite being a justice faction so they need the people to trust them.
So if it ever gets out that a guest that was staying in the clan and scheduled to compete in a duel was poisoned by the elder of all people outside of the duel, the Tang clan will lose all trust from both civilians and murim alike. Because if they could poison their guest, what would stop them from poisoning everyone else.

Well, the novel did have an open ending so choose whoever you want.

The cure is the high grade "Cure Turmeric" that they put in as an ingredient for the curry. Zelyse explained that it was the most potent cure for Evil Water if used normally but he had it brought in especially because it can also be used in reverse as an ingredient to make Evil Water's effect permanent and had a mercenary group disguised as bandits obtain it. But Fran encountered the group instead and took "Cure Turmeric" as loot and Master used it as regular turmeric in the curry. It's an accidental discovery and cop-out by the author as we all know neither Fran nor Master are smart enough to concoct an antidote.

Yeah, but the manhwa skipped the trial where MC obtained Ouroboros's eye, which was a pretty interesting arc.
