In fairness to him, he does have decent plans and ideas.

It's just that he has that good doggo aware of him and thwarting his efforts. That combined with Liam thinking he's responsible for the good fortune and thanking him constantly and it's no wonder he can't let go. Remember, getting thanked honestly and sincerely hurts him badly. So as far as he knows even if he gave up on Liam, he'd still be getting thanked regularly which would still be damaging him. So for the guide, it's sunk cost, a personal grudge, AND survival. He legitimately can't leave Liam alone or he might get thanked so much he dies.

This chapter did well.
