Arifureta was a horrible adaptation, but also the series shifts tone in general from a dark/emo esc revenge plot to semi slapstick the second the rabbit girl got introduced into the story, which is why I dropped it way back in the WN days.

The second they started talking about summoning another "hero" to deal with the demon king, and both becoming demon kings... I was pretty sure there was no return ritual.

For the same reason explained, if the hero became problematic why would they not instead trick/force him into getting returned...

Not sure how the story will developed from her however, feels bad for the majority who likely want to return.

And by the time the second season came around I honestly didn't remember WTF was going on because the series had been on a break for so long.

Which is why I never checked into S3...

Ironically breaker may have been among my first few korean series way back in the day.

I honestly think the "useless" OP MC trope rises from people who do or think they do amazing jobs or are at least passingly competent at a job, but get constantly screwed over at their company (others taking credit or being unrecognized for their contributions)

So these kinds of stories are a type of power fantasy escapism for people who feel otherwise aggrieved by current or past treatment. (speaking somewhat from past experiences...)
