Have you read this since the beginning? The anime is fantastic but the regret and melancholic tone of the story is definitely stronger in the manga since words and pictures can more clearly explain a person's feelings in a story than a video can. Frieren is certainly less goofy in the anime and already acts like an adult right from the first episode, but the manga shows her character growth way more clearly. In the manga, Frierens childlike mindset caused her to have the regrets that she has which helped form her character. I personally enjoy the manga more because I can both laugh and cry more harder than in the anime. But I get why you would like the super serious Frieren because of that bad-ass animation.
