The common theme of "obey some ABC moral/ethic or XYZ harrowing end will befall you" is a likely what evolved from an archaic, orally passed teaching/parenting tool to get kids to mind their parents, hence both its ubiquity across global cultures and roots far into antiquity. It fits with the sociality of humanity + the increase in evolutionary fitness offered by properly (by relative cultural standards) guiding the youth, who tend to be stupid.

That's what is fun (although some people will disagree, since it is stretching things a bit too long) about this arc: in a person with functional schizophrenia/multiple personality disorder, that extra voice/personality is themself experiencing what amounts to the internal turmoil of the original person. This makes Yoru no longer a garden variety psychopath (though, whatever extra dimension is being developed for her, only Fujimoto [maybe] knows).

It is truly hard to buy this flashback as true, especially since it could have easily been the reason behind the crash that ended up killing the sister. Things are just not realistically adding up.

I like how the chapter opens with Michinoku mimicking Ume's arm stretch. She's like an impressionable child that he has adopted. Very cute.
