The more fleshed out the world has become, the more interesting the MC has become as well~
And him trying to rip off his allies and realizing that he can't just blindly trust them is one of those interesting traits that might spark something fun in the future.

It is fascinating to see how our boy keeps growing out of his shell, and do things he would never had done before meeting Yamada.

I also feel like the author felt the need for a climax but didn't know how to end the story.

I mean, after the wizard fight using a machine to kill a dragon I felt the author was trying to close things fast... but this was unexpectedly fast.
