There is a lot going on on this chapter so this will also be a long comment.
First with the Drake Raid, as you already know Lauel is plotting the victory of Russia in exchange for Kraugel to join Overgeared, that's why he wasn't really active in the raid but he underestimated Zibal's raiding skills, so when USA finished in 14 minutes he was frustrated because he was sure that with 14 minutes USA had won the gold medal, so it was a surprise when they announced the gold winner and it was South Korea with 8 minutes and 59 seconds (that was the actual time). Grid was indeed lucky since all his items effects applied and was able to deal over 20m damage getting the "Death in One Shot" title (that's the actual name), the party reaction when they noticed the drops and the advertising were also amazing.
