Think of the devourer as an otherworldly entity akin to Cthulhu, or on more real terms as a piece of enriched uranium. Anyone exposed to such an entity would go crazy/sick either fast or slow but damned just the same. Melje did the equivalent of taking that otherworldly power and converting it into usable energy.

TL;DR: The testers are using muskets while Melje is out here performing nuclear fission.

I don't really feel she is tho, she is not aware of what even she feels, much less what Tokyo feels. Tokyo is choosing to remain by her side.
