Yuri
Literally the most generic boring and obvious route that could've been taken and we've gone down it. Aka Akasaka you truly are a hack.
Hopefully he's just holding out on us for the final arc. At this point I'll even accept yuri between Ai-chan and get best friend. It's more about closure at this point.
In current year it might be stuff like...maybe he's super cocky, has an ugly face, smells bad, super touchy around women, etc. Even making them fat can work, because a lot of people tend to either consciously or subconsciously treat fat people worse, because they've already established a negative ideas of them based on fatness(e.g. They're lazy, smell bad, unathletic, gluttonous or ugly looking)
The logic makes sense especially for a country like Japan that has very slim and small body standards. Tl;Dr most villains are meant to be unlikable and the best way to do that is give them unlikable traits.
Keep in mind humanity has only gotten faster and faster with development too. It took 600 years between glasses and contacts, but in the 1900s it took us 70 years to go from the first plane to the moon landing. If there has ever been a point in history where one can hope to see ridiculously rapid technological advancements it's now. We've made leaps and bounds medical science in the past 100 years too. We went from the most basic surgical procedures to gene editing and robotic surgeries.
With tech moving this fast I think it's kinda silly to then suggest that a contact lense is too much to ask for in the next 10-50 years. This woman will live to see AI act fully autonomously and take up a quarter of the work force. It's kinda dumb to then think it's too much to expect some junk to put on your eyes ain't coming up next. Ya gotta understand that if we put the growth rate of tech on a graph the line would be nearly vertical and it only becomes more so with time.
Also fair on the common sense lol💀 I just feel like she's making such a big deal out of what is a pretty simple solution to solve in our modern day. Even if it wasn't available now "I thought I'd never get to see my plane face" is just dumb. Humans work fast. If they managed to make the glasses then they WILL figure out how to make contacts even if they don't exist. Within her life time she was gonna see her own face either way. Probably in the next 10 years at that.
I'm not even against them having a cute wholesome moment. I just find the entire concept of this chapter kind of ridiculous and melodramatic. Maybe if they just made it so the glasses don't exist and she has to have this kind of semi-transparent/translucent fold around her eyes. Or if the only material they could use for the glasses looked nearly pitch black and no one could see her eyes, hence why contacts isn't feasible. But, nah, it's just normal specialized glasses.
